E6 HALDEN SVINESUND

 

This project is a result of an art competition with the aim to make E6, the new freeway from Halden to Svinesund, more safety and with fewer accidents.

I wanted to view the road as a whole based on the driving experience and break down the monotony in the driving through variation in the road cuts. The lines were positioned to emphasize the act of driving. I wanted to show the bend before the bend become visible, and the whole stretch of road as a whole body. The landscape alongside the road is a moraine landscape with distinct curves. The Norwegian NPRA are cutting the landscape quite brutally with as surgical precision, energy and determination. It implies wounds in the landscape. The intention was therefore to look at the lines as a suture which nesting together the landscape, making the lines to go down into the ground and pop up another place in the landscape.
